Charlotte Mikkelborg keynote speaker career highlights
Charlotte first gained recognition as a BBC foreign correspondent before turning to directing, producing and designing immersive experiences. She directed the first-ever immersive concert for the world’s biggest band, “Coldplay: Music of the Spheres – An Immersive Experience,” and was selected to series-direct Apple TV’s first live-action series made for the Apple Vision Pro, “Adventure,” produced in partnership with Atlantic Studios.
She won the SXSW Innovation Award in 2023 for designing “Time Detectives,” the original multisensory narrative AR game, having won the festival’s Immersive Storytelling Award a year earlier for “(Hi)Story of a Painting.” Her clients span entertainment, music, commercial and social impact sectors, including Apple, Disney, Coldplay, Meta, British Airways and the United Nations.
“The stories don’t change, what changes is the way we enable audiences to experience them.”
Signature keynote: the future of storytelling
In her keynote “Don’t Just Watch the Story, Live the Story! The Future of Storytelling in an Immersive Age,” Charlotte explores how tools such as virtual, mixed and augmented reality, motion capture, volumetric capture and virtual production are expanding organisations’ ability to create emotionally resonant, embodied narratives. She examines how presence, interactivity and spatial storytelling transform audience engagement, and considers AI’s role as a creative support tool that enhances rather than replaces human-led storytelling.
Charlotte also chairs the Oxford University Media Committee, is a guest tutor on University College London’s Immersive MA, has helped run the Google/YouTube Creators Lab and mentors filmmakers at the SXSW Film Festival.
